This contempory museum is the perfect combination between art and Modern architecture. Thanks to D. Juan Carlos (king of Spain0) who decided in 1992 to open this center as permanent museum. Today it’s a dense and attractive place for those who want to meet different side of modern art. The museum also offers many expositions constantly renewed. More than a museum it’s also a concert center, a cinema, and a huge bibliotheque.

Retiro Park (Parque del Retiro)

Situated behind the Prado museum, it is the most popular and widely visited park in Madrid. The central focus of the park is the large lake where you can go boating or simply laze around on its steps and listen to street entertainers perform. The park has a number of 'terrazas'  where you can take some rest or enjoy an 'horchata' (made from tiger nuts or almonds).

The Plaza Mayor is a huge arcaded square. Since it’s creation the Plaza Mayor has been the center of festivities bull fights, royal coronations and executions. Today It is still used today for public celebrations.

 

Army Museum

It is the largest collection of arms and armor in Spain after the Armería in the Palacio Real. The oldest exhibit in the museum is the sword belonging to El Cid, the Castilian hero who found a place in European literature.

Arms-and-armor aficionados gravitate to this entertaining collection on the so-called museum mile. Among thousands of items displayed are suits of armor, unusual pistols, a cross carried by Christopher Columbus and a sword believed to have been El Cid’s.

 

Botanical Garden

Situated just south of the Prado it is one of the oldest European Botanic Gardens where you will be pleased to admire flowers from many different part of the world. Entrance price 2 euros.

Church of San Nicolas

It’s probably one of the oldest buildings in Madrid and it is a wonderful monument full of history and especially the inside exhibits who detail the Islamic history of early Madrid. It architecture is wonderful with the red brick tower.

Royal Palace

This magnificent Castle reflects the opulence and the richest of the Royal Family since they are established in Spain. The grand throne room, the banquet hall seating up to 140 dinners, the royal library who has the first edition of Cervantes “Don Quixote”, the royal music museum with it five stringed instruments by Stradivarius, and the royal pharmacy are the main part of the visit.

Royal Tapestry Factory

Operating since 1721, the Royal Tapestry Factory crafts rugs and tapestries for spain’s Royals. In this place you will have the opportunity to see different tapestry-Making techniques and also an exhibit of tapestries created trough the years representing what is on the display palaces troughout the spain

Taberna de Antonio Sanchez

This place is the oldest tavern of Madrid. The decoration inside look much as it did when it did opening in 1830 with it dark walls lined with bullfighting paintings and it zinc bar and pulley system for hoisting wine casks from the cellar. It is so delightful to enjoy the typiocal cuisine and specialties of this place.
